Role overview

Royal Mail is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) for the Haverhill Delivery Office in CB9 8AB. This is a permanent position with a pay rate of £13.68 per hour, paid monthly. The role is based on a 37-hour working week, arranged across 5 days out of 7 from Monday to Sunday, with 2 rest days and working hours of 07:30 to 16:10.

In this position, you will represent Royal Mail in the local community while sorting and delivering letters and parcels across Haverhill. The work includes a mix of driving and walking, and the schedule may include weekends. Your rota will set your shifts and delivery routes, which can change depending on demand. You will also be required to work Sundays at Cambridge Delivery Office.

What to expect

This is a hands-on, fast-moving role that can be physically demanding. The job also involves carrying letters and large parcel volumes, with particularly busy and time-sensitive periods during peak demand.

About you

Royal Mail will provide training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. To succeed in this role, you need to be dependable, self-driven, organised, resilient, and confident in a customer-facing environment. You should also be comfortable working alone, spending time outdoors, and handling physical duties such as climbing stairs or hills and carrying mailbags of 10kg or more.

Requirements

• A full manual UK driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points, and it must be registered in your current name and address.
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van every day and pass a driving assessment.
• Physical fitness for long-distance walking, carrying heavier mailbags, and coping with active outdoor work.
• Reliability, self-motivation, and good organisational ability.
• A customer-first attitude and pride in delivering a high standard of service.
• Comfort with working independently outdoors in all kinds of weather.

Additional information

Benefit eligibility may depend on contract length, start date, and qualifying periods. For candidate search purposes, roles of 35 to 37 hours per week are shown as full-time, but any contract under 37 hours per week is treated as part-time in the employment contract.

As a Postie, you are responsible for securely delivering all items on your route, including election materials and certain regulated items such as food products or alcohol, in line with Royal Mail business standards.
