About the company
The New Zealand Blackcurrant Co-operative is a grower-owned business that turns blackcurrant harvests into exported products such as juice concentrate, frozen fruit, powders, and puree. Its customers are located across New Zealand, Japan, Australia, Southeast Asia, China, North America, and Europe. The team is small and collaborative, and is based at the Plant & Food Research campus in Lincoln, now part of the Bioeconomy Science Institute (BSI).
Role overview
This part-time position combines logistics coordination with administration support and reports to the Operations Manager. The main focus is managing overseas export shipments, including freight bookings, shipping paperwork, communication with freight and storage partners, and customer updates on order progress. The role also includes general office support as needed. Prior logistics experience is welcome, but candidates with strong organisation, efficiency, and the ability to learn quickly are encouraged to apply, with training and support provided.
Key duties
- Manage export shipments from purchase order stage through to final delivery in coordination with the freight forwarder.
- Prepare and send shipping paperwork such as commercial invoices, packing lists, shipping instructions, and release dockets.
- Arrange product samples for laboratory testing and customer assessment, both within New Zealand and overseas.
- Work with external storage providers on container loading and stock release activities.
- Keep the internal team and customers informed about shipment status and estimated arrival times.
- Track freight pricing, shipping timetables, and relevant shipping updates or developments.
- Maintain accurate sales order records and organised filing systems.
- Assist with general administration and other office tasks when required.
Working hours and location
The role is based at 74 Gerald Street, Lincoln and is mainly office-based. It may suit someone living in the Selwyn district. The position covers 15 to 20 hours per week, with flexibility around when those hours are worked. Standard office hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm. Some periods may be busier, and short-notice flexibility may occasionally be needed. Travel is infrequent, but the role may involve attending container loading operations at storage sites around Christchurch, with occasional trips to Ashburton or Timaru.
What the employer is looking for
The preferred candidate will ideally have some background in logistics or a related field. However, applicants with strong attention to detail, good organisation, and a proactive attitude are also encouraged to consider the role.
Required capabilities
- Clear written and verbal communication skills for regular contact with freight agents, storage providers, and local and international customers.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft 365 tools, including Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, and SharePoint.
- Excellent organisation and a strong eye for detail.
- Reliability and the ability to work independently once established in the role.
Preferred background
- Experience in export logistics, international freight, shipping coordination, or customs documentation.
- Experience with Odoo, or familiarity with another ERP system.
Pay and benefits
- Hourly pay range of NZ$28 to NZ$38.
- Flexible scheduling within a part-time arrangement.
- A Lincoln-based workplace with no city commute.
- A small, supportive team where contributions are visible and valued.
- Work connected to New Zealand's export sector and international markets.
- Laptop provided, plus a contribution toward your monthly mobile phone plan.
