Role overview

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks is hiring qualified Linespersons to support its Southern Electric Power Distribution teams. This is a permanent full-time field role for experienced professionals, not a trainee opportunity, with flexible-first working options available.

Location

Possible base locations include Poole, New Forest, Yeovil, Salisbury, West London, Slough, Reading, Swindon, Melksham, Andover, Oxford, Portsmouth, Isle of Wight, Basingstoke, Aldershot, and Petersfield.

Pay and rewards

The role is expected to deliver circa £50k OTE. The base salary band is £36,139 to £43,188, with additional overtime and standby payments. Pay progression is linked to a skills-based matrix, meaning earnings can rise as your capabilities grow.

Key duties

The postholder will carry out construction and repair work across networks from low voltage up to and including 11/33kV. The job also requires maintaining a strong safety culture, responding quickly to emergencies, and being willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions. Standby duties and short-notice call-outs, including storm response, are part of the role.

Requirements

Candidates must already be qualified DNO electrical linespersons; this role is not open to trainees. Applicants should have previous experience as an electrical linesperson and either UK DNO industry experience or recognised overhead line qualifications covering LV, HV, 11kV and 33kV from a recognised training school. Experience or certification in 11kV live line work would be a strong advantage.

A successful applicant should have a strong record in the construction, repair, and operation of electrical plant and equipment, excellent safety awareness, effective communication skills, the ability to explain technical matters clearly, enthusiasm, drive, and a flexible attitude toward changing business and project needs. The job also requires readiness for out-of-hours standby and rapid response in severe weather.

A full UK driving licence is essential.
