Role Overview
Trinity Anglican School is looking for a School Librarian who can help build an energetic, student-centred library culture where curiosity, reading, and discovery are actively encouraged. This is a permanent full-time position during term time only, covering 42 weeks each year.
The role is based at the White Rock Campus in Cairns, Queensland, and comes with relocation assistance options. The salary range is $92,000 to $105,000 per annum, pro rata, depending on experience.
Why This Position Matters
The school sees education as a life-changing force, and every staff member contributes to the growth of confident, capable, curious, and values-led young people. As the Librarian, you will sit at the centre of that mission by running a contemporary library service that supports both teaching and learning.
You will manage library systems, maintain collections, support research and information literacy, and make sure students and staff can access resources efficiently across the school. The role also includes overseeing the library as an active and welcoming space, coordinating textbook hire, supervising daily use, and keeping the library aligned with curriculum needs.
This is a role that combines technical competence, strong organisation, and a genuine commitment to learning in order to create a library environment that inspires lifelong learners.
About the School
Trinity Anglican School is a leading independent Anglican school in Far North Queensland and is among the top-ranked regional schools in Queensland for student achievement. The school is known for academic excellence, strong pastoral care, community spirit, award-winning outdoor education, and expert teaching.
The White Rock campus serves students from Pre-Kindy through Grade 12 and offers a blend of urban and rural Cairns surroundings. Facilities include a STEM centre, extensive grounds, multipurpose and performing arts spaces, a rock climbing wall, nature play areas, and aquatic facilities.
The school values perseverance, integrity, compassion, and curiosity, and aims to foster a caring, connected, courageous, and purpose-driven community where staff and students can thrive.
About Cairns and North Queensland
Cairns offers the appeal of a world-class holiday destination with a relaxed lifestyle and modern amenities. With green hills, the Great Barrier Reef nearby, and a strong work-life balance, the location is a major draw for people looking to live and work in tropical North Queensland.
Key Duties
In this role, you will keep the library running smoothly while supporting learning across the school. Your responsibilities include:
- Managing and refreshing the Smart Library system and SCIS database, including original cataloguing, authority control, student records, and digital downloads.
- Sourcing, organising, cataloguing, processing, and preparing materials across curriculum areas, including textbook hire resources, learning support items, and teacher reference content.
- Handling purchasing, budgeting, stocktakes, collection culling, and evaluation of resources and online databases so the library collection stays relevant and aligned with the curriculum.
- Supervising day-to-day library operations during and outside school hours, including student supervision, circulation, bookings, and interlibrary loan activity.
- Supporting students and staff with research capability, delivering introductory library lessons, assisting teachers during library sessions, and maintaining strong awareness of the national curriculum.
- Tracking and reporting IT or hardware problems, supporting access to online databases, and helping maintain reliable internet and network use in the library.
- Promoting reading, curiosity, and a love of lifelong learning among students.
What You Should Bring
The school is seeking someone who can combine library expertise, digital fluency, and a strong student focus. The ideal applicant will:
- Have solid experience in library operations and a strong working knowledge of library services and library management systems.
- Be confident with technology and digital platforms, including research tools, online databases, Microsoft Office, TASS.Web, and internet-based systems.
- Enjoy working with children and teenagers, with a genuine interest in young people, a strong understanding of children’s and adolescent literature, and the ability to guide research and reading development.
- Communicate well and work collaboratively, with strong interpersonal skills, conflict resolution ability, and the confidence to partner with teachers and support colleagues.
- Be highly organised and detail-oriented, able to balance cataloguing, collection work, student supervision, and daily library operations.
- Be proactive and solution-focused, with the ability to troubleshoot technical issues, maintain accurate systems, evaluate resources, and keep the library functioning as a dependable learning space.
Qualifications and Checks
- Certificate or Diploma in Library and Information Services.
- Previous experience in a library service, preferably within a school environment.
