About WQED Multimedia

WQED Multimedia is a long-established public media organization and one of the country’s early educational broadcasters. It serves hundreds of thousands of people across southwestern Pennsylvania through five television channels, streaming services, 24/7 classical radio, and education and community engagement initiatives.

About the Role

This position focuses on strengthening WQED’s visual presence by developing compelling creative for print, digital, video, and broadcast use. The ideal candidate brings a clear creative point of view, thinks both strategically and practically, and understands how design supports brand consistency, scalability across channels, and audience perception. Strong command of current design tools, a full grasp of the design workflow from concept to final delivery, and a solid foundation in branding and marketing are all important for success.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with colleagues across the organization to produce a broad range of creative materials, including logos, program and campaign identities, print assets, digital graphics, and other visual content.
  • Own projects from early concept development through final delivery, coordinating with stakeholders for input, feedback, and approvals along the way.
  • Work alongside the web/UX partner and the WQED+ app producer to integrate design assets into landing pages, content carousels, and related digital experiences.
  • Turn ideas into engaging visuals that support WQED’s narrative as it evolves into a community-focused resource connecting neighbors through shared experiences.
  • Keep all creative work aligned with established brand standards while also contributing to the continued refinement and strengthening of the brand.
  • Join marketing planning and strategy discussions, contributing original ideas and design thinking rather than only executing pre-existing concepts.

Preferred Creative Capabilities

  • Create motion-based versions of static work, such as video intros, transitions, visual effects, and social-first assets.
  • Develop motion graphics and 3D design components that enhance storytelling across video, broadcast, digital, and social channels.

Qualifications

  • At least 3 to 5 years of experience in graphic design, including work in both static and motion graphics.
  • Strong command of industry-standard design tools, especially Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Interest in learning technical topics, particularly those tied to public media, broadcast, digital platforms, and storytelling.
  • Sound creative judgment, initiative, and problem-solving ability.
  • A commitment to continuously improving craft, exploring new techniques, and bringing fresh ideas to projects.
  • Strong attention to detail, collaborative working style, and the ability to apply constructive feedback effectively.
  • Comfort working independently as well as within a cross-functional marketing and content team.

Nice to Have

  • Advanced experience with DaVinci Resolve Fusion, Cinema 4D, Blender, or comparable motion graphics and 3D software.

Compensation and Benefits

The pay range for this role is $28.00 to $35.00 per hour, depending on experience. Benefits include PPO health insurance, employer-paid dental, vision, disability, and life insurance, and a 5% employer contribution to a 403(b) retirement plan after 12 months.
