Role overview
The Estimator will prepare competitive cost estimates for new business prospects and manage the full estimating process from initial enquiry through to tender submission. The position involves bringing together inputs from internal teams, subcontractors, specialist suppliers, and the wider supply chain, then turning that information into clear, professional bid and cost documentation for senior review.
Key responsibilities
- Log enquiries and confirm their receipt.
- Review ITT documents carefully and extract both technical and commercial requirements.
- Oversee the preparation and tracking of bids and cost plans.
- Develop estimates covering building services works such as pipework and electrical work, fabrication, site installation, preliminaries, equipment, subcontract packages, design costs, and risk/escalation allowances.
- Coordinate contributions from colleagues across the business and create supporting material where needed to strengthen proposals.
- Present accurate estimating information in a structured format for review and approval.
- Take part in post-tender reviews and support project handover once work is secured.
Required experience and skills
- Background in the UK HVAC market.
- Hands-on experience in bid preparation and bid coordination.
- Previous work in estimating within construction or building services.
- Strong computer skills, especially with Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Good interpersonal and communication abilities.
Preferred experience
- Exposure to Trimble Estimation software.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Microsoft PowerPoint, or Primavera P6.
- Experience in the nuclear sector would be an advantage.
- Candidates with more general or entry-level estimating experience who want to build a career in this area may also be considered.
