Engineering Manager

Overview

Rosewood Red Sea is looking for an Engineering Manager to support an ultra-luxury hospitality setting where technical reliability directly shapes the guest experience. The position is responsible for keeping all guest-facing and back-of-house systems operating smoothly, safely, and with a high level of service quality, in line with the brand’s philosophy of comfort, safety, and sophistication.

This is a practical, hands-on leadership role that sits at the point where engineering performance meets guest satisfaction. The right person will respond quickly to issues, work independently when needed, and contribute ideas that improve day-to-day operations in a luxury environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the uninterrupted functioning of hotel systems such as HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire and life safety, and ELV equipment.
• Track plant room assets including chillers, boilers, pumps, and generators to keep them efficient and dependable.
• Carry out inspections, technical rounds, and detailed logging of operating conditions and performance readings.
• Maintain standby systems and emergency equipment in a state of readiness.
• Ensure essential utilities such as power, ventilation, and water remain available across the property.
• Respond promptly to guest maintenance requests while keeping disruption to a minimum.
• Investigate and resolve issues in guest rooms and public areas with a professional, service-oriented approach.
• Interact with guests when needed to ensure solutions meet luxury hospitality expectations.
• Run preventive maintenance schedules for equipment and building systems.
• Diagnose and repair electrical, HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, and mechanical faults.
• Complete minor civil maintenance work such as painting, carpentry, and finishing tasks.
• Work across multiple maintenance disciplines, including MEP systems and general building upkeep.
• Act as the first point of response for technical emergencies such as power loss, fire system activation, and water leakage or flooding.
• Support the Emergency Response Team and remain available after shift hours when urgent breakdowns require attention.
• Follow safe isolation procedures, including Lockout/Tagout practices.
• Ensure engineering systems serving kitchens, food production, and storage spaces comply with HACCP requirements.
• Maintain hygiene-critical systems such as kitchen exhaust and ventilation, drainage and wastewater, and cold room temperature stability.
• Assist Food Safety teams during audits and inspections.
• Prevent engineering issues from creating risks to food safety or hygiene standards.
• Take ownership of engineering activity during the assigned shift.
• Keep accurate logbooks, incident reports, and shift handover records.
• Pass on critical information clearly to the next shift and to supervisors.
• Provide daily activity updates and maintain effective cross-shift communication.
• Apply working knowledge of electrical systems, HVAC and refrigeration, plumbing, and building management systems.
• Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals.
• Use and calibrate gauges, meters, and control equipment correctly.
• Handle advanced troubleshooting across several technical areas.
• Monitor inventory levels for spare parts and consumables.
• Raise requisitions to ensure the operation stays fully supported.
• Store and handle tools, parts, and materials properly.
• Follow all safety procedures, fire and life safety rules, and relevant local regulations.
• Spot and report hazards, risks, and any non-compliance concerns.
• Use PPE correctly and promote safe working methods.
• Work closely with other departments to reduce operational interruptions.
• Guide and support junior technicians when required.
• Promote a working culture built on accountability, speed of response, and precision.
• Look for opportunities to improve system performance, energy usage, and maintenance methods.
• Take part in demonstrations, technical briefings, and cross-functional activities.
• Recommend and implement practical improvements that strengthen guest comfort and operational reliability.

Requirements

• Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Building Services Engineering is preferred.
• Technical certification or vocational training may also be accepted for luxury hospitality environments.
• 3 to 6 years of experience in engineering or maintenance operations is required.
• Previous work in a 5-star hotel or luxury property is an advantage.
• Hands-on exposure to plant room operations, guestroom maintenance, and BMS systems is expected.
• Strong troubleshooting capability across MEP systems is necessary.
• Knowledge of preventive maintenance, energy management, and building automation systems is important.
• Ability to read technical drawings, manuals, and related documentation is required.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills are needed.
• Must be able to deal professionally with guests and prepare accurate reports and logs.
• English fluency is mandatory.
• Arabic or another additional language is preferred in Middle East operations.
• Should be responsive, accountable, and comfortable working independently under pressure.
• Needs strong problem-solving, decision-making, and attention-to-detail skills.
• Must be willing to share technical knowledge, support training, and help onboard new technicians.
• Understanding of engineering-related HACCP requirements, fire and life safety systems, and safe work practices is required.
• Must be flexible to work shifts, weekends, and holidays.
• Should be physically able to carry out engineering duties.
• Must be willing to be on-call and respond to emergencies at any time.

Additional Information

This role requires frequent shift ownership, emergency availability beyond standard hours, and strong coordination with multiple departments. The position also involves supporting hygiene-sensitive areas, maintaining compliance with safety standards, and contributing to ongoing operational improvements in a luxury hospitality setting.

The role includes strict adherence to safety procedures, fire and life safety standards, local authority requirements, PPE usage, hazard reporting, and safe isolation practices. Engineering support must also protect food safety and hygiene standards in operational areas.

Training & Team Support

The Engineering Manager is expected to help develop junior team members, contribute technical knowledge during drills and learning sessions, and assist with onboarding new technicians when needed.

Work Schedule

Flexibility for shift work, weekends, holidays, and emergency call-outs is part of the role. The position is onsite in Saudi Arabia.
