Overview
IBM is establishing and growing a new IBM Z development team in Waterford, Ireland. This group will be connected into IBM’s worldwide IBM Z development network, collaborate closely with nearby IBM and Red Hat teams, and work with universities to support IBM Z learning and education. The role also contributes to industrial research aimed at delivering advanced solutions for enterprise customers and shaping IBM’s direction across IBM Z multi-architecture deployments, Linux, and AI.
What You’ll Do
- Take charge of the first-line leadership for the new IBM Z development organization.
- Guide, coach, and support team members through strong people leadership.
- Oversee hiring, onboarding, and training for new employees.
- Promote leadership growth by mentoring high-potential talent, preserving key expertise, and helping people develop both technical and interpersonal capabilities while sharing strategic and client perspectives.
- Coordinate closely with Red Hat to strengthen joint collaboration.
- Work hand in hand with program management on strategy, product planning, and prioritization.
- Partner with international development teams to align on commitments and delivery timelines, helping the team earn recognition and trust within IBM’s Development and Research community.
- Use agile methods to manage projects and delivery.
- Navigate the unique challenges that come with a first-of-its-kind initiative.
- Empower the technical team so they can deliver high-quality products.
- Build a productive operating environment by planning infrastructure needs and establishing effective processes.
Work Arrangement
This role is located in Waterford and requires onsite presence three days per week.
Education
A bachelor’s degree is required.
Required Experience and Expertise
- Strong capability in people management, project leadership, and overall team leadership.
- Background in multiple first-line leadership roles.
- Well-rounded technical experience gained across different development initiatives.
- Established network across IBM, universities, and client organizations.
Preferred Background
- Enthusiasm for IBM Z and open source technologies.
- Experience in creating and scaling new teams.
- Strong interest in technical innovation.
