Civil Engineer

Role overview

The Civil Engineer will handle the planning, design, and supervision of construction and upkeep activities for structures and infrastructure, including roads, bridges, utilities, and industrial sites. The position focuses on delivering work safely, on schedule, within budget, and in line with applicable regulations and quality requirements.

Core responsibilities

• Develop plans for civil engineering works and oversee their construction and ongoing maintenance.
• Create technical drawings, specifications, and project cost estimates.
• Assess project plans to confirm they meet local laws, codes, and internal standards.
• Visit sites, track work progress, and verify that quality and safety expectations are being followed.
• Liaise with architects, contractors, and other project participants to keep execution on track.
• Control project budgets, timelines, and resources efficiently.
• Spot possible project risks and apply measures to reduce them.
• Draft and deliver technical reports and related project documentation.
• Follow health, safety, and environmental policies at all times.

Qualifications and requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline is required.
• Previous experience in civil engineering or construction projects, usually around 2 to 4 years depending on the level, is expected.
• Working knowledge of design tools such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or equivalent software is needed.
• A solid grasp of construction techniques, building materials, and legal or regulatory requirements is essential.
• Professional licensure or certification is an advantage where relevant.
• Strong analytical thinking, issue resolution, and communication abilities are important.

Working conditions

• Travel to project locations may be required, and the role can involve exposure to changing weather conditions.
