Role overview

University of Canterbury’s People and Culture team is looking for a Capability and Wellbeing Coordinator to help deliver the organisation’s staff capability and wellbeing development programme. Based on campus in Ōtautahi Christchurch, this fixed-term role runs until March 2027 and is a full-time position of 37.5 hours per week.

The position is ideal for someone who is organised, hands-on, and comfortable working across coordination, administration, systems support, and stakeholder engagement. You will work with a collaborative team focused on helping people grow and thrive.

What you will do

In this role, you will coordinate training timetables, support and enhance the online learning and professional development tools used by the university, review programme data to spot patterns, and help improve the overall delivery of capability and wellbeing initiatives.

You will work with a range of stakeholders to keep programmes running smoothly and contribute ideas for improving processes, tools, and participant experience. The role also offers scope to build skills in e-learning, facilitation, and programme planning.

What we are looking for

The university is seeking someone with strong coordination ability, a practical mindset, and a collaborative approach. Experience in administration within HR, learning and development, or a wellbeing-related setting would be highly relevant.

Familiarity with HR or learning systems such as learning management platforms or performance and professional development systems would be an advantage, and experience with Prolorus or Totora is especially useful. You should be confident building relationships, supporting managers at different levels, and communicating clearly in writing and speaking.

Accuracy, attention to detail, sound judgment, problem-solving ability, and comfort working under pressure are all important. Strong Microsoft Office capability, especially in Excel, Access, and Word, is also expected. A tertiary qualification in Human Resources, Psychology, Business, or a related field is preferred. Te reo Māori skills are an advantage, and alignment with UC’s values is important.
