Role overview
Barnes & Noble is looking for a Café Team Expert for its Mobile, Alabama location at McGregor Square. This full-time onsite position places you in a key leadership role within the café, where you help build team capability, support a welcoming customer experience, and contribute to a profitable operation through smart use of data, inventory awareness, and sales-focused decision-making.
In this role, you will work closely with the Store Manager to shape and adjust café action plans, share practical business ideas, and help the team deliver strong results. The position combines hands-on café work with coaching, operational support, and collaboration across the store and cluster as needed.

Key duties
You will be expected to master the operational standards of a Barnes & Noble barista and coach others in the process. Responsibilities include preparing drinks to standard, maintaining food and beverage presentation, adjusting displays, keeping counters and fixtures in order, handling the register efficiently, supporting the bookstore team when needed, and helping protect the store through loss prevention awareness and de-escalation skills. You will also help manage food and beverage inventory, complete monthly inventory and waste logs accurately and on time, and support safe and efficient café operations.
As you build experience, you will expand into more advanced responsibilities such as giving informed food and beverage recommendations, reviewing sales and inventory reports to improve profitability, meeting regularly with the Store Manager to discuss performance and training needs, and maintaining café hygiene, sanitation, and safety standards.
Working conditions
This role involves significant physical activity, including standing for long periods, frequent bending, walking, and lifting. Depending on business needs, you may also be asked to support work in other stores within the cluster. You are expected to follow all company policies and procedures at all times.
