Role overview
The Selection Monitoring team is looking for a Business Analyst to work on large-scale data analytics, turn findings into actionable business insight, and present clear recommendations to stakeholders. The role requires a strong understanding of customer needs, the ability to translate those needs into analytical requirements, knowledge of where data lives across different systems, and the confidence to communicate effectively while driving business value. You will also help with project planning, cost and efficiency analysis for platform resources, scaling data processes and reports, and tracking timelines and deliverables.
Key responsibilities
- Tackle unclear business problems by narrowing down the real issue and tracing it back to the root cause.
- Design and run data analyses that uncover opportunities for the business.
- Build a strong working understanding of the company’s data sources and know when to use each one.
- Work through large datasets using SQL, MS Excel, and other data manipulation tools to answer important business questions.
- Create new reports and dashboards that support emerging business needs.
- Collaborate with the Data Engineering team to implement new data technology.
- Prepare written recommendations and insights for stakeholders to support selection expansion decisions across global markets.
- Lead full projects or major project components from end to end, including planning, data collection, manipulation, modelling, and problem solving.
Team overview
The Selection Monitoring team has been operating since March 2009 and has continued to expand its scope. Based in Chennai, the Amazon Selection and Catalog Systems group works on improving selection for the retail and third-party marketplace business across global markets. The team manages end-to-end processes for discovering, prioritising, and adding new products available to customers worldwide. This work supports one of the company’s core priorities: offering the broadest possible selection. The environment is fast-moving and growth-oriented, with frequent new challenges and opportunities to make a meaningful impact.
Requirements
- At least 4 years of experience in tax, finance, or a related analytical area.
- At least 4 years of hands-on use of Excel, including VBA, pivot tables, array functions, and Power Pivot, as well as data visualisation tools such as Tableau.
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business, economics, engineering, analytics, mathematics, statistics, or another technical/quantitative field.
- Experience defining requirements and using data and metrics to generate business insight.
- Experience making business recommendations and influencing stakeholders.
- Strong working knowledge of Excel.
- At least 3 years of practical analytics experience, including building data pipelines with SQL, creating reports in Excel, and developing dashboards in tools such as QuickSight.
- Ability to work independently and effectively in a fast-paced setting with tight deadlines.
- Ability to coordinate with cross-functional teams to deliver project or program requirements.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience working with executive leaders to identify and solve business problems.
