Role overview
Busways is inviting expressions of interest from people who want to begin a career as a bus driver in Ryde. The role is aimed at motivated drivers who enjoy working with the community and want to deliver a reliable, positive passenger experience.

Pay and attendance allowance
- Permanent weekday pay is $33.58 per hour, with shift loadings depending on the time worked during the shift.
- Weekend and public holiday rates are $50.37 on Saturday, $67.17 on Sunday, and $83.96 on public holidays.
- An attendance allowance of $19.48 is paid daily.

Working pattern
Drivers need to be flexible and available for a variety of shifts, including weekends, early starts and late finishes. Many full-time shifts are split shifts, designed to cover peak travel periods in the morning and afternoon.
- Morning split-shift window: 6:00am to 10:00am
- Afternoon split-shift window: 2:00pm to 6:00pm
During the break between split shifts, drivers can leave the depot to go home or run errands, or remain on site and use driver facilities. Some straight shifts may also be available, with start times in the morning, afternoon or evening. All depots run seven days a week, and work on Sundays and public holidays is voluntary overtime.
Who can apply
This opportunity is open to people interested in becoming bus drivers. A current unrestricted driver’s licence is required, while a Medium Rigid or Heavy Rigid licence is preferred but not mandatory. Applicants should also have a solid driving record, good communication skills and strong customer service ability. Candidates must be prepared to complete a pre-employment medical assessment, criminal history check and Working With Children Check.
A current NSW Driver Authority is strongly preferred, or applicants must be willing to obtain one. If a suitable applicant does not yet have the required licence or authority, Busways may provide a free licence upgrade for eligible applicants, paid induction and mentor training, and assistance with the Driver Authority course and application process.
