Role overview
This opening is for an experienced backend engineer who enjoys solving systems problems and learning continuously. You will join a high-caliber engineering group to deploy and run existing services, and to create new ones for challenges specific to Asana’s product environment. The role gives you the chance to architect, build, and maintain services and frameworks that support the Asana platform.
Work arrangement
This position is tied to the Reykjavík office and follows an office-centered hybrid setup. The usual in-office days are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Most team members may work from home on Wednesdays. Working remotely on Fridays depends on the nature of the work and the teams you collaborate with. More detail on on-site expectations will be shared during interviews.

- Create, refine, and improve frameworks that affect many parts of the product.
- Work closely with framework and product engineering teams to find ways to help teams build faster and support company goals more effectively.
- Study complicated systems to identify problems, root causes, and opportunities to improve.
- Promote strong engineering standards and code quality by setting an example and building helpful frameworks.
- Build new APIs that are easy to use while still supporting a feature-rich web application.
- Write high-quality code and aim to leave the codebase cleaner than when you found it.

- Collaborate with a top-tier engineering team to create new functionality using well-designed building blocks.
What the company is looking for
- At least 3 years of backend engineering experience in large, well-maintained codebases, with a track record of shipping production software.
- Strong ability to learn quickly and move comfortably across different parts of a complex codebase.
- Good independent judgment when deciding how to balance speed with durable, maintainable code.
- Experience promoting high-quality software engineering patterns across teams.
- Familiarity with the React/GraphQL ecosystem; TypeScript is preferred.
- Interest in a supportive environment where teammates actively encourage each other’s growth.
- Curiosity about AI tools and emerging technologies, plus willingness to use them to improve productivity, collaboration, or decision-making.
Compensation and benefits
The estimated annual base pay for this role is 13,050,000 ISK to 14,137,500 ISK. Final pay may change depending on market conditions and the candidate’s qualifications as assessed during the hiring process. The salary range can also be updated over time. In addition to base pay, the overall package may include equity, sales incentive pay for most sales roles, and benefits. The company also runs a yearly pay equity audit to help ensure fair compensation.
