Role overview
Newsweek is hiring an Associate Editor to strengthen its UK digital newsroom. The role is based in the United Kingdom and can be performed remotely anywhere in the UK, or in a hybrid arrangement from the London office at Canary Wharf. The person in this position will bring solid experience in U.S. news coverage, with a particular focus on politics, current affairs, and culture, and will be comfortable working in a busy newsroom where speed and accuracy matter equally.
This is a full-time position scheduled across five days each week on a rota, and the working pattern will regularly include one or two weekend days. The successful candidate will be expected to move quickly on developing stories, contribute original and exclusive reporting, and help maintain Newsweek’s editorial quality across digital platforms.
What the role involves
The Associate Editor will handle digital news production from sourcing and pitching stories through to writing, editing, and publishing. They will be expected to deliver multiple stories each day, keep on top of breaking news, and support live blog coverage where needed. The position also involves working closely with News Editors, the US News Editor, reporters, and the wider editorial team to shape coverage and ensure originality in reporting.
Editorial judgment is central to the role. The editor will need to ensure that every item published is accurate, fair, engaging, and consistent with accepted journalism standards. They will also need to adapt to new tools, platforms, methods, and techniques as newsroom practices evolve, and take on any other reasonable editorial duties required by the business.

This is a five-day-per-week role on a rota basis, with regular weekend work. You may work from home from anywhere in the UK, or from Newsweek’s office space in Canary Wharf, London.
