Yard Worker

Role Overview

This role is based outdoors in a vehicle yard and focuses on preparing salvage vehicles for storage and resale. The work includes draining fluids, removing parts, cleaning vehicles, and helping move and stage units safely and efficiently.

Key Duties

• Safely drain fluids, lubricants, and related components such as converters to get vehicles ready for placement in the yard.
• Remove salvage parts from vehicles, including items like quarter panels, doors, lids, hoods, axles, and suspension components.
• Place vehicles in the yard as directed and record vehicle information accurately and promptly.
• Use a forklift or loader when needed to move vehicles from processing into the yard.
• Clear debris from vehicles before they enter the processing area.
• Remove batteries for testing and transfer charged batteries to the retail area for resale.
• Coordinate with the Loader Operator to stage vehicles and move them properly within the yard.
• Walk the yard and place debris into vehicles being removed from the yard.
• Dismantle tires as part of yard operations.
• Keep the work area safe, organized, and clean at all times.
• Follow all EPA and OSHA safety requirements.
• Use all required personal protective equipment.
• Follow company policies and procedures consistently.
• Support ongoing improvements to the company’s quality system.
• Take on additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

A high school diploma or GED is preferred. Candidates should be comfortable with straightforward manual work, able to cooperate well with others, pay close attention to detail, and communicate clearly. The job also requires flexibility to work changing schedules, including weekends.

Physical Requirements and Work Conditions

• You must be able to remain on your feet for most of the shift, except when operating equipment.
• No lifting limitations are allowed, and candidates should not be uncomfortable with heights.
• The role requires standing for long periods and the ability to sit, walk, push, pull, bend, climb, and lift or move up to 75 pounds regularly.
• You must be able to climb ladders and stairs and work at heights above 15 feet.
• Work involves regular exposure to moving mechanical parts.
• The position is fully outdoors and does not provide weather coverage.
• You should be able to work in both hot and cold temperatures.
• The workplace noise level is moderately loud.
