This Workshop Operative position is based in Tamworth and follows a Monday to Friday schedule from 07:30 to 17:00, totalling 40 hours per week.
Role summary
As a Workshop Operative, you will play a hands-on support role across the depot, working with logistics, transport, customer service, and engineering colleagues. The position involves a range of practical tasks such as handling deliveries and collections, helping with loading and unloading vehicles, and keeping stock under control.
The role suits someone who works well in a team, communicates clearly, and can adapt quickly when priorities change. A strong focus on safety is essential for protecting both colleagues and customers.
This opportunity also gives you exposure to multiple areas of the operation, creating a strong foundation for building experience and moving into a specialist path over time.
What you need
To be successful in this role, you should have a driving licence, comfortable IT skills for using the technology platforms involved in moving and loading equipment, and good verbal and written communication abilities. You should be flexible, willing to learn, ready to support others, and able to work both independently and as part of a small team. A willingness to complete a forklift course is also required, along with strong housekeeping standards and the ability to support the wider team in delivering the ESG strategy, Decade to Deliver.
Training and development
Full on-the-job training is provided, along with dedicated product and system training support. The company also focuses on employee growth through tailored development programmes and encourages internal progression.
Work-life balance and flexibility
The business promotes an industry-leading work-life balance initiative aimed at reducing core contracted hours, supporting wellbeing, and offering more balanced working patterns. Depending on the role, flexible arrangements may include adjusted start and finish times, shorter days, term-time hours, and job share options.
Benefits
Employees receive a package that includes 26 days of holiday plus bank holidays, life assurance, a pension scheme, canteen facilities, a 95% discount across the Speedy brand, training and career development opportunities, a voluntary health cash plan, discounts through My Staff Shop, the Green Commute Initiative cycling scheme, and access to the PAM Employee Assistance Program for confidential wellbeing, legal, financial, and personal support.
