Utility Locator

Role Overview

USIC is hiring a Utility Locator in Logan, West Virginia for a full-time, daytime field position. This role is suited to someone who enjoys working outdoors, takes safety seriously, and prefers independent, hands-on work. The company is a major provider of underground utility damage prevention and infrastructure support services, serving utilities and municipalities across the United States.

This position does not require previous locating experience. Training is provided from day one, and candidates with prior utility locating experience are also welcome. Employees work in the field using a company vehicle, phone, and equipment, and use ticket and claims systems to complete accurate mark-outs for excavators and property owners.

Compensation

The pay for this role is $20.00 per hour.

Responsibilities

• Identify underground utility lines accurately and safely, including telecom, electric, cable TV, gas, water, and sewer systems.
• Survey assigned areas thoroughly, mark utility locations, complete required paperwork, and take photos for each locate.
• Work independently in the field while using company-provided technology and vehicle.
• Handle locate requests with attention to quality, safety, and completeness.
• Maintain clear communication with coworkers, customers, contractors, and homeowners when needed.

Work Schedule

This is a daytime, full-time position. Because many locates must be completed within 48 hours, the schedule may include work the day after holidays, some weekends, overtime, and on-call shifts. Night and weekend on-call work may also be required depending on business needs.

Requirements

• Willingness to work outdoors in changing weather conditions.
• Comfort using technology and company systems.
• Availability for overtime, weekends, and on-call assignments.
• Ability to pass a drug screen due to the safety-sensitive nature of the role.
• Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record.
• Ability to work in confined spaces and perform physical tasks such as walking, bending, and lifting up to 75 lbs.
• Ability to distinguish colors used for wiring and utility marking.
• Ability to read and use locate tickets, maps, and prints.
• Capacity to communicate effectively with team members and the public.

Eligibility

Applicants should be dependable, safety-minded, and comfortable doing fieldwork independently. Prior outdoor experience is helpful but not required. Veterans are encouraged to apply.
