Role overview
This is a full-time role of 40 hours per week, based onsite in Dunedin, Otago. You will work with an experienced group of planners who are focused on improving how Temporary Traffic Management is planned and delivered.
About the position
The role goes beyond drawing diagrams. It requires a strong grasp of risk-based planning and the ability to apply that thinking when creating TMPs. You will review work sites, identify potential hazards, consider relevant modifiers, put practical controls in place, and explain the reasoning behind each planning decision in a clear way.
You will also be involved in stakeholder engagement, including meetings and site visits. This position suits someone who is confident communicating face to face and who naturally takes an outgoing, approachable style.
Producing accurate RapidPlan diagrams is important, but so is understanding the logic behind the chosen layout and being able to support it with a sound risk assessment.
What we are looking for
The ideal candidate will bring current NZTA/NZGTTM planner competencies, hands-on experience creating Temporary Traffic Management Plans, and strong knowledge of the NZ Guide to Temporary Traffic Management (NZGTTM). You should also be comfortable developing risk assessments, writing clear and practical risk statements, and understanding how modifiers shape planning choices.
Strong communication, problem-solving, collaboration, and a commitment to ongoing learning are all important, along with a willingness to help lift industry standards.
Preferred background
It would be an advantage to have either Micro Credential 4923 Temporary Traffic Management Risk Assessment or Skill Standard 33253. Experience in a risk-based TTM setting, rather than depending only on standard layouts, is also highly desirable.
What we offer
We offer pay that reflects your experience, the opportunity to join a respected and well-established company, access to ongoing professional development and training, and the support of a knowledgeable planning team.
Application note
If you are interested in quality planning and want to work in an environment that values critical thinking alongside technical skill, you are encouraged to apply with your CV and a short cover letter explaining your background and what you would contribute to the planning team.
