Role overview
This position is focused on creating memorable, hands-on science encounters for visitors at SparkLab, the Queensland Museum’s interactive science centre in South Brisbane. The role is centered on sparking curiosity and supporting learning through interactive STEM exhibits, live demonstrations, guided exploration and other engaging experiences for a broad public audience.
What you will do
You will help run the daily visitor experience at SparkLab, making sure the centre remains safe, welcoming and delivered to a consistently high standard. The work involves supporting science-based activities, assisting with special events and school holiday programs, and contributing ideas that improve how visitors engage with the space.
In this public-facing role, you will adapt scientific ideas for different groups such as families, school groups, early learners, community groups and adults. You will use clear and engaging communication to make complex concepts easier to understand and more relevant to each audience.
The role also includes delivering curriculum-aligned programs, helping with school visits, supporting inquiry-led learning, and encouraging visitors to learn through play, experimentation and discovery. You will assist with testing and improving activities so they remain innovative, audience-focused and aligned with Queensland Museum objectives.
Operational duties
Alongside engagement work, you will assist with practical centre operations such as exhibit upkeep, preparing equipment, managing stock, following safety procedures, guiding visitor flow and collecting visitor feedback and evaluation data. There may also be opportunities to work with colleagues across Queensland Museum on shared initiatives.
