Role overview
Whānau Āwhina Plunket is Aotearoa New Zealand’s largest organisation supporting the health and wellbeing of tamariki under five and their whānau. Its services include routine well-child health checks and 24/7 telehealth support through PlunketLine.
The organisation is looking for a Registered Nurse or Occupational Therapist to join the Perinatal Adjustment Programme (PPNAP) in a 0.5 FTE fixed-term role running until June 2028. The position supports whānau across South Canterbury and is based in Twizel, Canterbury.
The opportunity
This position suits someone who is committed to helping women, babies, and families through the perinatal period, especially where mild to moderate anxiety, depression, or emotional distress are present.
You will work in a person-centred and whānau-focused way, offering practical, emotional, and evidence-based support during pregnancy and the first year of parenthood.
Key duties
- Carry out full assessments, including use of the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS).
- Deliver evidence-based interventions, education, and practical support matched to each client’s needs.
- Link clients and whānau with suitable community services and support networks.
- Provide care across multiple settings, including homes, clinic spaces, and virtual appointments.
- Offer continued support through home visits, phone contact, and group-based programmes.
- Work with whānau whose needs may be multifaceted, changing, and complex, while managing the challenges that come with that work.
