Financial Controller

About the role

The Financial Controller will join the site finance function and report to the Finance Director. This is a practical, hands-on leadership role focused on running day-to-day finance operations, strengthening controls, and supporting the site’s growth through improved reporting, analysis, and strategic input.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare, review, analyse, and report on site financial and operational performance.
• Lead daily finance operations while maintaining sound financial governance and control.
• Manage and coach a team covering accounts payable, accounts receivable, treasury, and reporting.
• Oversee intercompany activity, including accounting entries and reconciliations.
• Own the month-end close cycle and ensure outputs are accurate and delivered on time.
• Carry out detailed variance analysis against budget and forecast.
• Manage tax matters including VAT, PAYE, and corporation tax, and ensure compliance with Revenue requirements.
• Provide financial insight and commercial support to the Finance Director and senior leadership.
• Safeguard balance sheet integrity through strong reconciliations and review routines.
• Monitor cash flow and support working capital optimisation.
• Review and improve internal controls, policies, and finance procedures.
• Lead annual group and statutory audits and act as a key point of contact for external auditors and tax advisers.
• Drive ongoing improvement in systems, processes, and reporting quality.
• Support the development and mentoring of finance team members.

Requirements

• Professionally qualified accountant such as ACA, ACCA, or CIMA.
• Between 5 and 10 years of relevant experience, including at least 3 years in a similar role within a fast-moving multinational environment.
• Proven background managing a finance team of around 5 to 10 people.
• Strong expertise in intercompany accounting.
• Solid understanding of accounting standards and concepts, including US GAAP and FRS 102.
• Hands-on experience with ERP platforms such as JD Edwards and Oracle.
• Excellent attention to detail, organisation, and administrative discipline.
• Strong computer skills, especially in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Commercially minded with good problem-solving ability.
• Analytical approach with the ability to work accurately under pressure and to tight deadlines.
• Able to work independently as well as collaboratively with colleagues at different levels and across functions.
