Facility Maintenance Worker

Role Overview

Youth Opportunity is seeking a Facility Maintenance Worker for its Elizabethton Youth Academy in Elizabethton, Tennessee. This is a full-time position with multiple shift options. The hourly pay range is $17.00 to $19.00.

Youth Opportunity is a nationally recognized provider of residential and behavioral health services for at-risk youth. The Elizabethton Youth Academy is a 16-bed residential treatment center serving girls between the ages of 12 and 17. The program is centered on mental health care, education, and creative therapies such as art, music, and recreation. Through a trauma-informed approach, the team delivers individualized support designed to promote long-term success in life, learning, and emotional well-being.

Position Summary

This role supports the day-to-day functioning of the Elizabethton Youth Academy by keeping the facility safe, orderly, and efficient. It is well suited to someone with experience in building and grounds upkeep who wants to contribute to a structured residential treatment setting.

Key Duties

• Oversee building services, including upkeep, grounds care, parking areas, and general facility safety.
• Carry out routine inspections and take preventative action to keep the property safe, efficient, and visually presentable.
• Manage safety and security procedures, including fire protection, burglary prevention, and facility shutdown protocols.
• Monitor closed-circuit security equipment and access card systems.
• Assist program managers by identifying maintenance needs and coordinating repair projects.
• Maintain records for fire and health inspections and follow through on correcting any identified issues.
• Coordinate contractor work related to building maintenance, equipment, and grounds.

Additional Responsibilities

• Model appropriate behavior for the youth in care.
• Take part in training and professional development as required.
• Report incidents, behaviors, or conditions that reflect improper conduct.
• Report any use of physical force and all unusual incidents according to policy.
• Complete other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening.
• Strong organizational and communication skills are needed.
• Ability to help create a positive, team-oriented workplace.
• At least 3 years of experience in facility maintenance or a similar field is preferred.
• Project management experience is strongly preferred.

Other Requirements

This job involves physical work, including frequent lifting and moving of up to 50 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 75 pounds. The role requires close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, as well as the ability to drive for extended periods. Candidates must hold a valid state driver’s license, meet the company’s auto insurance standards, and satisfy state criminal background check and pre-employment screening requirements.
