Overview
Frederic Schad is hiring an experienced Customs Documentation professional in Kingston, Jamaica for an on-site, full-time role. Candidates without prior relevant experience will not be considered.
Core Duties
- Check tariff classifications against the customs paperwork to ensure accuracy.
- Keep the internal clearance register current and organized.
- Make sure every step of the clearing process aligns with customs and local legal requirements before, during, and after shipment processing.
- Work closely with airline, shipping line, supplier, and contractor contacts to keep shipments moving smoothly and in line with SOPs and customer expectations.
- Prepare customs paperwork and upload/publish it to the web server.
- Initiate requests to finance for duty and tax payments.
- Prepare and file manifests for all shipments.
- Track shipment progress and update company tools such as the Ops log and Cargo Wise according to internal business rules.
- Follow up with shipping companies to obtain arrival notices.
- Handle submission of export documents.
- Coordinate with customs brokers to get the latest status updates on cleared shipments.
- Support the physical dispatch of shipments when required.
- Arrange delivery of shipments to customers in line with standard procedures and customer requirements.
- Apply for all customs-related permits needed for clearance.
- Review customer-submitted invoices for accuracy.
- Assist with Delivery Orders in the PCS (Port Community System).
- Identify non-conformities and report them so process improvements can be developed in your area.
- Carry out other operational tasks relevant to the role.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree is the minimum academic requirement.
- At least 1 year of experience in a similar role is required.
- Good working knowledge of MS Office is needed.
- Familiarity with AFR and OFR operations, including handling, documentation, and customs clearance, is expected.
- Applicants should be able to prepare Customs Declarations for both imports and exports.
- Ability to confirm tariff classifications with Jamaica Customs is required.
- Strong understanding of customs laws, procedures, and regulations is essential.
