About the Company
RheoSense, Inc. develops advanced scientific instruments focused on high-accuracy microfluidic viscosity measurement. Its VROC platform is used by professionals in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, materials science, and advanced manufacturing to obtain dependable results that support research, product development, and scientific progress.
The organization operates in a collaborative and fast-paced setting where innovation, customer success, and ongoing improvement are central to the culture. The team is growing and seeks people who want to work with advanced technology and contribute meaningfully to the scientific field.
Role Overview
This position is for an Application Scientist based remotely from Germany. The role combines application support and field service work, so it involves both technical customer guidance and hands-on instrument support. Regular travel across the EMEA region is required for installations, training sessions, and ongoing technical assistance. The role also includes close coordination with U.S.-based teams in San Ramon, California.
Employment is arranged through an Employer of Record, Rippling, which acts as the legal employer in the employee’s country of residence and manages payroll, statutory benefits, and local labor-law compliance. RheoSense remains responsible for day-to-day supervision, responsibilities, and performance management.
Compensation and Benefits
The base salary range is €65,000 to €80,000 per year, with eligibility for a performance-linked bonus. Final starting pay will depend on lawful, non-discriminatory factors such as experience, skills, and location, and candidates should not expect to begin at the top of the range.
Benefits and perks are administered by Rippling and will follow the statutory requirements applicable in the employee’s work location in Germany, the United Kingdom, or Italy. Additional local benefits may also be provided in line with regulations and EOR policies.
What You Will Do
- Deliver product training, live demonstrations, and workflow consultations for RheoSense instruments and software.
- Explain viscosity, rheology, and microfluidics in a way that helps customers apply the technology in real workflows.
- Support customers in building methods, understanding results, and following best practices for precise viscosity testing.
- Assist clients both remotely and onsite to ensure smooth adoption of RheoSense solutions.
- Install, set up, and service instruments at customer locations when needed.
- Diagnose technical problems and restore instrument performance with minimal disruption.
- Record service actions, client discussions, and technical observations accurately and in a timely manner.
- Contribute technical input during customer evaluations, demos, and commercial discussions.
- Gather customer feedback and share it with sales, engineering, product, and R&D teams.
- Maintain a professional, customer-focused approach in all remote and field interactions.
- Travel within the home country and across Europe as required.
- Take on additional assigned duties as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- A master’s degree in a science or engineering field such as Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or Biophysics; a PhD is strongly preferred.
- Practical experience with scientific instruments, analytical tools, or laboratory measurement systems.
- Proven ability to turn scientific ideas into practical applications.
- Technical problem-solving ability for instrument or system troubleshooting.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to simplify complex concepts.
- Ability to work independently in a remote setup while coordinating with global teams.
- English fluency is mandatory; German is highly preferred, and other European languages, including Italian, are advantageous.
- A valid driver’s license.
- Capability to lift, carry, or move equipment weighing up to 40 lbs (18 kg).
Preferred Background
- A PhD in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline.
- Experience in viscosity, rheology, microfluidics, or related technologies.
- Prior work in an application scientist or customer-facing scientific support role.
- Hands-on exposure to instrument installation, calibration, or field service.
- Technical support experience tied to sales or business development.
- Strong ability to analyze data and interpret scientific results.
- German language proficiency, with additional European languages seen as a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stay seated for long periods while working at a computer, supporting customers remotely, or joining virtual meetings.
- Comfort using a computer, keyboard, mouse, and standard office tools.
- Ability to move around office and lab settings for equipment handling, setup, or teamwork.
- Ability to lift, carry, or move equipment up to 40 lbs (18 kg) and perform hands-on installation or service work.
- Ability to travel for onsite installations and customer support across Germany and Europe.
Application Screening
Only candidates who meet the minimum qualifications and submit both a detailed cover letter and a resume will be reviewed. Applications that do not satisfy these conditions will not move forward.
