About Contact Energy
Contact Energy is focused on helping power Aotearoa’s future by delivering energy that is more sustainable, dependable, and better for customers and communities. Its Geothermal Turnaround team supports this mission by planning and carrying out essential maintenance that keeps generation assets operating safely and efficiently.
Across Wairakei and the wider geothermal fleet, the team combines technical knowledge, detailed planning, and precise execution to make sure assets continue performing strongly and contributing renewable energy for New Zealand.
About the role
This is a practical, high-responsibility opportunity based at Wairakei for someone who can help coordinate turnaround activities and maintenance programmes across generation assets. You will work closely with site teams, contractors, and leaders to make sure every turnaround is properly prepared, runs safely and efficiently, and finishes on plan.
Your work will include scoping jobs, organising resources, supporting delivery, and closing out activities in SAP. You will help prepare the team before work begins, stay involved during execution, and ensure all work is completed cleanly and in compliance with requirements. The role suits someone who can balance planning, coordination, and problem-solving while keeping people aligned and focused.
About you
You are comfortable being hands-on, resolving issues, and bringing order to complex work. An electrical or operational background would be a strong fit, and you should understand how maintenance work is safely delivered in an active environment.
The ideal candidate will have a relevant trade, diploma, or equivalent experience in a maintenance discipline, plus experience in maintenance, turnaround work, or similar project-based environments. Familiarity with SAP or a similar system would be valuable. Experience leading teams or contractors is helpful, though informal leadership experience is also welcome. Strong communication and relationship-building skills are important.
Above all, you bring a practical mindset, good judgement, a strong safety focus, and pride in quality work. A commitment to continuous improvement and a collaborative approach will help you succeed in this role.
Additional information
This is a permanent position with a range of employee benefits, including supportive leadership, strong team culture, development and progression opportunities, free health insurance cover, above-average leave, access to Contact Shares, an annual “Good to be Home” payment for home setup and wellbeing, a progressive parental leave policy, bi-annual payments toward Contact Energy products, and other benefits.
Applications close at 9:00am on Monday, 6 July 2026.
