Smart Driver

About the Role

This position is for a safety-conscious Smart Driver who will support autonomous delivery vehicle operations in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The role functions as the on-road safety operator, keeping watch over vehicle behavior, helping maintain operational readiness, and taking control whenever needed to keep the service safe and compliant.

The job requires close coordination with operations, engineering, dispatch, remote operators, and customer support teams to help deliver a dependable and efficient autonomous delivery experience.

Work Pattern

Rotating shifts are required, including day, evening, night, weekends, and public holidays as needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Drive and oversee autonomous delivery vehicles in line with company procedures, UAE traffic regulations, and relevant compliance requirements.
• Keep constant awareness of the surroundings while observing vehicle performance in both autonomous and manual modes.
• Take manual control of the vehicle whenever safety or operational conditions require it.
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and scheduled vehicle checks.
• Confirm that the vehicle is clean, functional, and ready before it goes out on route.
• Immediately and accurately report incidents, near misses, traffic offences, vehicle defects, and any operational irregularities.
• Assist with vehicle deployment, return, charging, fueling, and routine servicing tasks.
• Follow safety rules, operating procedures, and escalation steps at all times.
• Record operational activity, vehicle condition, route details, and incident information correctly in company systems.
• Work with dispatch, operations, technical teams, and remote operators to help resolve issues.
• Support testing, validation, and data-gathering tasks when required.
• Share operational feedback that can improve autonomous vehicle performance and customer experience.
• Maintain a professional image when dealing with customers, partners, and regulatory stakeholders.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of driving experience in the UAE.
• A valid UAE driving license and a clean driving history.
• No serious traffic offences, license suspensions, or major at-fault accidents in the last 3 years.
• Availability to work rotating schedules, including nights, weekends, overtime, and public holidays.
• Strong written and spoken English communication skills.
• A strong commitment to safety and excellent attention to detail.
• The ability to stay composed and make practical decisions under pressure.
• Basic computer literacy and comfort using smartphones, tablets, and mobile apps.
• Ability to follow detailed procedures and complete documentation accurately.
• Reliable personal transport for commuting to operational sites.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Physical capability to sit for long periods, enter and exit vehicles frequently, and carry out basic vehicle inspections.
• Comfort working with autonomous vehicle systems, remote operators, and engineering teams.
• Preferred experience in logistics, transportation, ride-hailing, fleet operations, delivery services, or commercial driving.
• Preferred exposure to vehicles with advanced driver assistance systems such as adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, and collision warning.
• Preferred familiarity with autonomous vehicle procedures and safety practices.
• Preferred experience in a fast-paced operational setting.
• Preferred use of driving simulation software with force-feedback steering wheel and pedal setups.
• Preferred basic knowledge of vehicle systems, diagnostics, and troubleshooting.
• Preferred experience with incident reporting, fleet management, or dispatch software.
