Role overview
The Senior Hook-up Engineer will lead the discipline effort and support the Hook-up Lead and Hook-up Manager in delivering construction and completion work during the hook-up phase. The role is focused on making sure project execution is completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule, while also applying specialist engineering knowledge to solve complex technical issues and improve outcomes.
Key responsibilities
- Draft and check hook-up job cards, including all prerequisites, with attention to step-by-step installation and completion activities.
- Build the work breakdown structure for the discipline scope.
- Examine construction work packs for the relevant discipline and confirm alignment with project requirements.
- Create the hook-up schedule for discipline-specific tasks, ensuring activities are sequenced efficiently and coordinated with other disciplines.
- Take part in pre-engineering surveys, pre-construction surveys, and post-installation surveys.
- Create the constructability log and track action closures on a weekly basis.
- Review discipline MTOs and verify offshore contingency quantities.
- Check material requisitions against project specifications before purchase and coordinate delivery to site, yard, port, offshore, or other onshore locations as needed.
- Review the hook-up progress register and ensure the tracking method matches the hook-up job cards for the discipline.
- Work with the warehouse team to confirm material receipt status and quality inspection clearance.
- Coordinate with the fabrication team to receive fabricated materials and shipped loose materials for the project.
- Coordinate with the hook-up material team to verify material bags and tags against project requirements and job cards.
- Develop and roll out detailed hook-up plans and strategies for both onshore and offshore projects.
- Support and guide junior engineers so they follow timelines and quality expectations.
- Partner with project management and procurement teams to secure the required people, materials, and equipment on time.
- Carry out risk assessments and put mitigation actions in place for safe hook-up execution.
- Ensure work follows project requirements, industry codes, standards, and environmental and sustainability expectations.
- Track daily progress and report updates to the planner.
- Coordinate with the commissioning team to understand system priorities and plan construction accordingly.
- Support the commissioning team in speeding up vendor-related activities.
- Ensure the hook-up superintendent and offshore construction crew are fully briefed before offshore mobilization.
- Travel to offshore locations and onshore yard facilities as needed to support coordination and resolve interface issues.
- Take part in toolbox talks and confirm permit-to-work requirements are completed before any site activity begins, while following company QHSES policies.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical, or equivalent industry experience.
- At least 10 years of experience in offshore engineering or closely related fields.
- Strong understanding of hook-up practices, including relevant industry standards and regulations such as API and ISO.
- Ability to use project management tools and software for planning, scheduling, and progress tracking.
- Strong communication and leadership skills for working with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and clients.
- Ability to handle technical challenges, suggest practical solutions, and drive continuous improvement.
- Safety-focused, quality-driven, and capable of delivering within schedule and budget targets.
- Skilled at reviewing technical documents, drawings, and specifications to identify gaps and recommend fixes.
- Confident decision-maker under pressure, with the ability to prioritize work and allocate resources effectively.
- Project management certification such as PMI, or similar training, will be considered an advantage.
