Data Engineer - Snowflake

About the role

EY is looking for several experienced Senior Consultants or Managers to join the team as Data Engineers. The role focuses on modern data engineering, integration, and model development, with a strong emphasis on designing and delivering cloud-based data and AI solutions on Snowflake. You will work with tools across the broader architecture, including Fivetran, dbt, and Coalesce, and contribute to building data ingestion and transformation workflows, data models, and data products. The position also involves creating intuitive interfaces that help users work with complex data through visualization tools and natural language experiences.

This opportunity is also suited to someone who enjoys mentoring others and providing technical direction to junior team members.

In line with client needs, the role is based in either Auckland or Wellington. Flexible arrangements, including reduced hours, may be considered.

Key responsibilities

• Design Snowflake AI Data Cloud solutions and overall platform architecture.
• Develop data models and build pipelines that ingest and transform data effectively.
• Connect Snowflake with supporting tools such as Fivetran, dbt, and Coalesce.
• Build reliable and scalable ingestion and transformation pipelines using Snowpipe and related tooling.
• Work closely with cross-functional stakeholders to convert business data needs into technical solutions.
• Guide and support junior data engineers through coaching and technical leadership.
• Keep up with emerging data engineering methods, tools, and trends to stay current and effective.

Required experience and skills

Successful candidates will have strong hands-on experience in Snowflake-based data platforms and solution architecture. They should be comfortable with several data modelling approaches, scalable pipeline design, and efficient SQL development. Experience integrating Snowflake with tools like Fivetran, dbt, Coalesce, and Power BI is also important.

Additional strengths that would be valuable include familiarity with Snowflake Horizon Catalog, integrating Snowflake with Cortex, designing and training machine learning models using Cortex, and working with languages such as Python, Java, and Scala. Experience creating interactive interfaces with Streamlit or similar frameworks would be an advantage. Strong problem-solving ability, clear communication, a collaborative mindset, curiosity about data and AI, and prior mentoring or technical leadership experience are all desirable.
