Mining Safety & Compliance Manager

Position Summary

This role is responsible for directing site-wide health, safety, and emergency management programs at a mining operation in Papua New Guinea. The successful candidate will ensure the business meets PNG legal requirements, aligns with industry-leading practices, and follows internal standards while strengthening a strong safety-first culture across all functions.

Key Responsibilities

• Champion and embed a proactive approach aimed at eliminating harm in the workplace.
• Own the upkeep and continuous improvement of the Health, Safety and Environment Management System.
• Coordinate risk reviews, hazard controls, and verification of critical safeguards.
• Provide safety oversight for underground mining, processing, logistics, maintenance, and construction work.
• Handle incident investigations, close-out of corrective actions, and mandatory reporting to regulators.
• Maintain readiness for emergencies and ensure response plans remain effective.
• Lead safety learning initiatives, competency checks, and contractor safety compliance.
• Perform audits and inspections, and prepare reporting on safety performance trends.

Must-Have Requirements

• A degree or diploma in OHS, Mining Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
• At least 10 years of mining safety experience, with underground operations included.
• Deep familiarity with mining and workplace safety rules in Papua New Guinea.
• Strong background in leadership, risk control, and incident investigations.
• Prior exposure to remote, high-risk mining environments.
