Role purpose
This position reports to the Section Head – Mechanical / Maintenance Manager and is responsible for planning and supervising preventive and corrective maintenance, as well as monthly and annual outage and overhaul activities for plant mechanical equipment.
Key responsibilities
- Allocate preventive and corrective maintenance tasks as directed by the Maintenance Manager, while overseeing the work of maintenance staff and keeping accurate records, reports, and related correspondence.
- Raise and execute work orders through the CMMS/SAP system, and coordinate with the planning engineer on job completion and technical issues.
- Maintain effective communication so that matters needing action are reported promptly and corrective measures are carried out.
- Support the Maintenance Manager in carrying out planned and corrective maintenance in line with the annual maintenance schedule.
- Evaluate quotations received from the purchase department and suggest the most suitable option based on technical review.
- Prepare purchase requests for spare parts and consumables within budget limits and help ensure strategic spares are available to meet maintenance needs.
- Review existing maintenance procedures and work instructions, and recommend improvements where needed.
- Guide, direct, and coordinate the work of all personnel assigned to the area.
- Perform any other duties assigned by management from time to time.
- Ensure environmental aspect-impact and hazard risk assessments are completed, controlled, and updated.
- Implement, monitor, and report IMS objectives, targets, and programs.
- Provide the resources needed to implement and sustain the IMS effectively.
- Report IMS performance to management on a periodic basis.
- Ensure legal compliance within the scope of activities.
- Identify root causes for non-conformances or deviations and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Assess competency gaps among subordinate staff and take appropriate action.
- Conduct annual performance evaluations for reporting employees.
- Ensure compliance with legal, contractual, and organizational requirements.
- Provide on-the-job training to new employees and assess their OJT performance.
- Identify, document, and control hazards in the assigned work area.
- Monitor identified aspects and ensure operational controls are followed.
- Report IMS deviations, determine root causes, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Report emergencies, incidents, and near misses.
- Use resources efficiently and effectively.
- Carry out additional duties as assigned.
Experience and education
A bachelor’s degree in engineering or an equivalent qualification is required, along with 10 to 15 years of relevant experience in operation and maintenance within power plants.
Skills and knowledge
- Working understanding of quality, occupational health and safety, and environmental management system principles.
- Knowledge of applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
- Ability to perform hazard and risk assessments.
- Ability to conduct aspect-impact assessments.
- Strong investigative capability.
- Knowledge of spill containment practices.
- Understanding of HSE emergency management.
- Familiarity with waste identification, classification, and disposal.
- Knowledge of emission monitoring practices.
- Ability to lead a maintenance team.
- Strong English communication skills.
- Computer literacy, including the ability to use Microsoft Outlook for correspondence.
- End-user proficiency in SAP.
