Material Planner

About the role

BOXX Technologies is hiring a Material Planner for its Product Operations team in Austin, Texas. This position focuses on planning and forecasting materials so production can run smoothly and customer demand can be met without interruptions across the product lifecycle.

What you will do

• Create monthly and quarterly demand forecasts and inventory plans in a high-mix, low-volume discrete manufacturing setting.
• Study demand patterns, forecast movement, and customer backlog to calculate material needs and spot supply risks early.
• Work with Purchasing, Engineering, Manufacturing, and suppliers to find shortages quickly and put mitigation actions in place to protect delivery commitments.
• Coordinate with suppliers and the Purchasing team to track delivery performance, resolve supply disruptions, and keep materials available for production.
• Manage supplier change notices and ensure they move through the internal review and implementation process correctly.
• Evaluate the material effect of Engineering Change Orders and align execution plans with the relevant cross-functional teams.
• Support end-of-life and end-of-availability transitions.
• Help coordinate Material Review Board activities and decide how non-conforming materials should be handled to reduce impact on production and customer deliveries.
• Maintain planning settings tied to Bills of Material, alternate parts, and engineering changes.
• Keep ERP planning data current, including lead times, safety stock, order policies, and other parameters that affect planning accuracy.
• Run and support Material Requirements Planning tasks such as demand reviews, supply plans, order suggestions, and exception handling.
• Track and share planning metrics such as backlog, material availability, inventory turns, forecast accuracy, shortages, and on-time delivery.
• Handle day-to-day material planning work to keep materials ready for production schedules and customer requirements.
• Review, approve, and coordinate requests for non-production material based on business needs and inventory goals.

Experience and skills

• You should have 2 to 5 years of experience in materials planning or closely related work.
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel at an advanced level, along with other productivity tools.
• Hands-on experience with MRP and ERP systems.
• Clear verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong analytical ability and careful attention to detail.
• A proactive, can-do attitude with a focus on continuous improvement.

Preferred background

• 5 or more years of experience in materials planning is preferred.
• Experience supporting computer assembly or electronics manufacturing is a plus.
• Familiarity with Lean manufacturing concepts is preferred.
• Experience with Bills of Material, Engineering Change Orders, and product lifecycle management processes is beneficial.
• Working knowledge of chat-based AI assistants and scripting with large language models is also useful.
