Groundsperson

Overview

Downer is seeking expressions of interest for an entry-level Groundsperson to join its permanent workforce at RAAF Base Scherger in Weipa, Queensland. This is a strong option for someone starting out, changing careers, or looking to build practical skills while working outdoors.

The opportunity is open to candidates from a wide range of backgrounds, including those with Defence exposure, relevant industry experience, or transferable skills from other fields. What the role involves

• Carrying out regular upkeep of site gardens and grounds.
• Watching for and managing hazards linked to grounds maintenance activities.
• Learning to operate a variety of equipment, including ride-on mowers, whipper snippers, and other grounds maintenance tools.

What you need

• A current open driver’s licence.
• Ability to gain and keep a Defence Security Clearance, with Australian citizenship required.
• A reliable work ethic, a positive approach, and a focus on delivering quality results.
