About the company

Westfalia Fruit is an international supplier of fresh fruit and value-added produce, with a strong focus on avocados. The business operates a vertically integrated supply chain covering growing, sourcing, ripening, packing, processing, and marketing fresh produce throughout the year across global markets. With the world’s largest avocado-growing footprint, the company serves retail and wholesale customers through sales offices in the UK, Europe, North America, Latin America, and Southern Africa.

Role overview

This Munich-based position is for an experienced logistics professional who can lead and improve end-to-end logistics across a fresh produce supply chain. The role is central to moving product efficiently, sustainably, and reliably from grower origin to customer delivery while protecting freshness and quality. You will work closely with Supply Chain, Quality, Sourcing, Operations, Commercial, Procurement, and Finance teams to strengthen service levels, resilience, cost control, and customer satisfaction.

Key responsibilities

  • Create and implement logistics strategies that support growth, service quality, product integrity, and sustainability objectives.
  • Shape and continuously improve the logistics network from source locations to distribution points and final customer delivery.
  • Manage transport activities across ocean freight, port operations, warehousing, road distribution, and last-mile delivery, with strong control of cold chain conditions.
  • Coordinate inbound, internal, and outbound freight to balance cost, timing, service performance, and product quality.
  • Put in place effective logistics procedures, risk controls, and contingency planning to reduce disruption and maintain continuity of service.
  • Work across functions to align logistics planning with sourcing, operations, commercial needs, procurement priorities, and financial targets.
  • Lead the selection, negotiation, and ongoing performance management of 3PLs, carriers, shipping lines, and warehouse providers.
  • Maintain compliance with international transport rules, customs obligations, and sustainability practices such as lower carbon impact and improved packaging efficiency.
  • Track KPIs, vendor risks, budgets, and commercial agreements to improve operational and financial outcomes.
  • Build, coach, and guide a high-performing logistics team with a focus on accountability, continuous improvement, succession, and talent growth.

Requirements

  • Extensive logistics and supply chain experience in fresh produce, food, or FMCG settings.
  • Demonstrated success running pan-European logistics across complex multi-country supply chains.
  • Strong hands-on background in warehousing, freight forwarding, international transport, and distribution.
  • Experience handling multimodal freight, including ocean, road, and air.
  • Proven ability to manage third-party logistics providers, supplier performance, and logistics tender processes.
  • Deep knowledge of temperature-sensitive and time-critical supply chains, especially cold chain operations.
  • Experience designing and refining logistics networks to improve service, quality, and cost efficiency.
  • Good understanding of customs procedures, import/export rules, and international logistics compliance.
  • Strong analytical, financial, and commercial capability, including use of ERP platforms and logistics reporting tools.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and leadership skills, with the ability to operate at both strategic and operational levels.
  • Preferred background in global logistics or international supply chains beyond Europe.
  • Prior exposure to avocado, fresh produce, or other perishable goods sectors is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of fruit ripening and shelf-life factors linked to logistics operations is desirable.
  • Additional European language skills, especially Spanish, are beneficial.
  • Experience contributing to sustainability or logistics efficiency initiatives is desirable.
  • Exposure to logistics systems rollouts, transport optimisation, or supply chain digitalisation projects is a plus.
  • Understanding of retail and wholesale fulfilment needs within fresh food supply chains is helpful.
  • Experience in matrixed or globally integrated organisations is an advantage.

Benefits

  • Discretionary company bonus.
  • In-house English language course.
  • Opportunities for further career development within the company.
  • Membership access to the body & soul fitness centre for a small fee.
  • Free parking.
