Role overview

This freelance, part-time remote opportunity is for a chatbot engineer who can create and improve conversational bots for messaging platforms such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord, and related services. The work is part of a hybrid AI-and-human project environment, where automated support handles repetitive tasks and you contribute the technical judgment needed to produce dependable, production-ready bots.

The role involves building bot workflows for use cases like customer support, appointment scheduling, order intake, content distribution, moderation, and automated alerts. You will also help assess AI-generated code, tighten reliability, and ensure the final experience is suitable for real users.

About the project

The project is focused on developing conversational systems and platform integrations for messaging channels. The team works on turning specialist expertise into practical AI-enabled solutions, with an emphasis on usable, stable, and scalable bot experiences.

Core work

Create bots for WhatsApp Business API / Cloud API, Telegram Bot API, Discord API, and similar messaging platforms.
Plan and implement dialogue paths, state handling, and fallback logic.
Connect bots with LLM services such as OpenAI, Anthropic, or comparable tools when natural language generation is needed.
Integrate messaging bots with backend applications, databases, CRMs, and external services such as booking, payment, or content systems.
Work with webhooks, platform rate constraints, and message formats including buttons, templates, media, and interactive responses.
Review AI-produced bot code, improve its structure, and add robust error handling.
Set up logging, monitoring, and recovery mechanisms so bots remain reliable in production.

Experience and qualifications

Applicants should have substantial experience in backend integration, automation, or bot development. A minimum of 3 years in a relevant field is required, and at least 1 year of practical work building bots for major messaging platforms is expected. A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline is advantageous.

You should be comfortable designing dependable conversational workflows, working independently, and turning AI-assisted output into stable systems that users can trust.

Technical expectations

Strong backend development ability in Python or Node.js.
Good command of REST APIs, webhooks, OAuth, and asynchronous request processing.
Experience with relational or NoSQL databases for conversation state and user data.
Understanding of messaging platform rules, template systems, and approval processes, including WhatsApp template messaging.
Familiarity with hosting and deployment options such as Docker, serverless, VPS, or PaaS.
Knowledge of LLM APIs and prompt design is a strong advantage.

Additional requirements

High attention to detail and a strong commitment to bot stability and error-free flows.
Ability to work independently and deliver complete solutions end to end.
A portfolio or examples of previously built bots are required.
English proficiency at upper-intermediate level (B2) or higher is required.

Time commitment and compensation

Expected involvement is around 10 to 20 hours per week during active phases. This is an estimate rather than a fixed guarantee, and the workload applies only while the project is active.

Compensation can reach up to USD 60 per hour equivalent, depending on your experience and pace of work. Pay may differ across projects based on scope, complexity, and expertise requirements.
