Role overview
Hutch Underwriting is seeking a commercially minded and analytical Finance Analyst to support a rapidly expanding underwriting agency in Greater Sydney. This position is well suited to someone looking to develop a long-term career in insurance within a business that is scaling quickly.
You will work alongside the Head of Finance and gain hands-on exposure across underwriting, claims, bordereaux preparation, capacity provider settlements, financial reporting, automation, and business analysis. The role is designed for someone who is more than a transaction processor — it calls for curiosity, initiative, comfort with data and systems, and a drive to improve how finance work is done.
As the business grows, you will be expected to take on broader responsibilities, help refine processes, and play an important part in shaping the future finance function.
Key responsibilities
- Build and reconcile premium and claims bordereaux for capacity providers.
- Match underwriting, claims, and finance data across several systems.
- Assist with month-end close activities, balance sheet reconciliations, and management reporting.
- Help with premium receipt processing, cash allocation, and connected finance operations.
- Review financial and operational information to spot trends, issues, and improvement opportunities.
- Support new product launches and the integration of products into finance and reporting workflows.
- Contribute to financial reporting, regulatory submissions, and external audit preparation.
- Keep financial records accurate and help maintain strong finance controls.
- Develop and enhance reporting tools, models, and dashboards.
- Look for ways to automate tasks and make processes more efficient.
What we are looking for
The ideal candidate brings strong Excel capability, including Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP, Power Query, and data analysis. Experience in insurance underwriting is preferred, particularly exposure to Lloyd’s of London.
A degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business, along with 2–5 years of relevant experience, is required. We are seeking someone who is analytical, proactive, eager to learn, highly detail-oriented, and willing to take ownership of their work. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills are also essential.
Most importantly, the right person will enjoy problem-solving, improving processes, and taking on new challenges. Success in this role will come from initiative, adaptability, and a positive attitude as much as from technical expertise.
