Role Overview
The Athletic Performance Assistant is a sports science-oriented role within an integrated performance and medical team. The position focuses on operating sports science technology, supporting performance data collection, and managing data entry and storage. It also includes assistance with analysis, visualization, reporting, and logistics tied to the athletic performance program, such as strength and conditioning sessions, warm-ups, supplements, equipment, and food, depending on assignment.
Key Duties
- Run sports science tools and systems to support accurate collection, entry, and storage of athlete data, such as profiling, tracking, and assessments, and help train staff on collection methods when needed.
- Maintain accurate records and enter data into the organization’s online management platforms.
- Keep documentation of all data collection procedures current and organized.
- Perform data cleaning, exploration, analysis, modeling, visualization, and reporting as needed.
- Support internal research and development projects when assigned.
- Help keep the weight room and cardio room clean and organized.
- Assist the equipment manager with operational tasks as required.
- Provide logistical support for athletic performance activities, including strength and conditioning sessions, warm-ups, supplements, equipment, and food, based on background and assignment.
Candidate Profile
This role is suited to someone with experience in a sports setting and a background supporting athletes in a sports science or performance capacity. The ideal candidate should be comfortable working with data systems, be highly organized, and communicate well across medical, performance, equipment, and basketball operations teams. Reliability, professionalism, and a willingness to learn are important.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience in a sports environment, ideally supporting athletes through a sports science or performance role.
- Strong comfort level with data management tools and online systems.
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology, or a closely related field.
- Currently certified, or actively working toward an industry-recognized strength and conditioning or sports science certification, such as NSCA-CSCS or NSCA-CPSS.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Strong operational ability and a sharp eye for detail.
- Excellent communication, time management, and organizational skills.
- Strong work ethic, along with punctuality and daily accountability.
- Trustworthy attitude and a positive approach to work.
- Willingness to learn and communicate effectively with professionals across medical, performance, equipment, and basketball operations functions.
- Physical ability to stand, sit, and walk for long periods, and to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs regularly.
- Availability for frequent non-traditional hours, including weekends, holidays, travel, and a schedule of 40+ hours per week.
Preferred Experience
- Experience in a high-performance team-sport setting, especially supporting athletes in sports science or performance roles.
- Exposure to one or more programming languages or analytics tools such as R, Python, SQL, SAS, SPSS, Matlab, or C++.
