Role overview
This temporary Administrative Support II position is part of the virtual observation team at the University of Alberta Hospital. The role supports patient safety by remotely watching live video feeds, spotting concerning behavior early, and coordinating with nursing staff when action is needed. Although the work is performed from a remote location, the position is an important part of the wider healthcare team.
Key duties
- Monitor patients through live video and stay alert for any activity that could put safety at risk.
- Use two-way audio to communicate calmly and clearly with patients when intervention is required.
- Trigger an alarm and relay concise, timely information to the nurse if urgent help is needed.
- Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of observations, patient interactions, and events in the electronic health record.
- Carry out safety checks on the equipment and perform basic troubleshooting when needed.
- Deliver equipment to various units as part of the day-to-day workflow.

Pay
The advertised pay range is $24.28 to $29.51 per hour.
Required qualifications
Applicants must have completed Grade 12 or an equivalent level of education.
Additional requirements
- An updated resume must be attached with the application so that experience and qualifications can be properly reviewed.
- Previous experience working as a virtual monitoring attendant is required.
- Experience supervising several patients at the same time is necessary.
- The job involves extended sitting and also continuous walking while pushing equipment for at least two hours per shift.
- Constant alertness is essential throughout patient monitoring.
- A client-focused approach is expected.
- Strong attention to detail is needed.
- Basic computer skills are required, including ongoing use of a keyboard and mouse.
- The role requires the ability to operate a smartphone.
- Candidates should be able to work with limited supervision.
- Good teamwork and collaboration skills are important.
- Applicants must be able to follow established procedures and protocols.
- English communication skills are required, including reading, writing, speaking, understanding, and giving verbal instructions.
- The ability to adapt to changing priorities and respond appropriately is necessary.
Preferred experience
