Overview
Dyersburg State Community College is seeking part-time adjunct instructors in Astronomy to teach day, evening, and online classes. Teaching may take place in Dyersburg, Covington, Paris, or at another off-campus center supported by the college. The first assignment can be at any approved teaching site, and the formal work location may be adjusted from semester to semester.
Role Expectations
The selected instructor will be expected to become certified to use the college's course management platform, eLearn, and use it for all classes. The role also includes attending required meetings, submitting attendance records, sending early alert notices, and entering final grades by the stated deadlines. The instructor will also relay any curriculum or staffing needs or changes to the assigned chair or dean as needed. This position reports to the Chair of Natural Sciences and the Dean of Arts, Sciences & Technologies.
Duties and Responsibilities
Teach assigned Astronomy courses at the designated locations in Covington, Dyersburg, and/or Paris. Prepare instructional materials, assess student learning, keep class records current, and file required reports within deadlines.
Working Conditions
The work is primarily sedentary and involves desk-based duties. Occasional travel may be required for college or program-related activities. The environment is a standard office setting with minimal exposure to hazards and normal environmental controls for health and comfort.
Required Qualifications
A master's degree from a regionally accredited institution, along with 18 graduate semester hours in Astronomy, is required. The applicant must also be able to communicate clearly and effectively with students and other college staff.
