Role Overview

Black Diamond Group’s Workforce Solutions Fleet team is hiring a full-time contract Yard Laborer in Fort St. John, British Columbia. This role is centered on keeping the yard safe, orderly, clean, and fully operational, while supporting branch activities through housekeeping, material handling, environmental responsibilities, and traffic direction.

This is a branch-based position rather than a field assignment. As experience and capability grow, there may be opportunities to move into field operations.

Key Duties

• Keep the yard clean, secure, organized, and safe for daily operations.
• Collect and dispose of garbage, waste, and leftover materials from yard and work areas.
• Carry out routine housekeeping and general yard upkeep.
• Clear topsoil, clay, and other debris created by asset movement and installation work.
• Maintain roadways, access routes, and designated storage zones.
• Clean rig mats and handle the removal of collected materials properly.
• Guide truck drivers and contractors to the correct unloading and sweep-off areas.
• Support receiving, staging, and arranging materials and assets in the yard.
• Immediately report spills, hazards, near misses, and unsafe conditions.
• Take part in spill response when required.
• Follow all health, safety, operational, and environmental procedures set by the company.
• Work alone when needed while following lone-working communication and safety requirements.
• Interact professionally with customers, subcontractors, visitors, and coworkers.
• Assist with miscellaneous yard tasks and light maintenance work.
• Operate company equipment safely within the limits of training and competence.
• Complete basic records and reports when requested.
• Understand and follow general administrative and departmental policies and procedures.
• Attend required training, including safety, operational, and computer-based programs.
• Use company software and systems for timesheets, inspections, training, communications, and other branch tasks.
• Build basic computer skills and familiarity with internal systems to support future growth.
• Handle additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Experience in yard work, construction, general labor, or industrial settings is an asset.
• Ability to work with limited supervision and stay productive independently.
• Strong focus on safety and maintaining a tidy worksite.
• Experience with loaders or forklifts is preferred.
• Current safety certifications, or a willingness to obtain them, are required.
• Basic computer knowledge and exposure to Microsoft Outlook, Teams, and mobile apps are helpful.
• Willingness to learn company software, inspection tools, and other operating systems.
• Interest in ongoing learning and career development.
• Good communication and time-management abilities.
• Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
• Fluency in English, both spoken and written.
