About the Role
Neon Canvas is hiring a full-time Web Developer to handle the daily delivery of WordPress builds and website requests across a growing client portfolio. The position partners closely with the Director of Web Development and a Junior Developer to keep websites accurate, high-performing, secure, and consistent with each brand.
The right person will be a practical, detail-oriented builder who enjoys producing polished work, can move a project from design handoff to launch with limited supervision, and communicates early when obstacles appear. This role owns assigned builds and requests from start to finish while following the team’s quality expectations and security standards.
Website Development and Build Work
- Create WordPress websites from the initial design handoff through QA and final launch.
- Adapt themes using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript so the finished site aligns with client branding and design requirements.
- Organize, style, and place site content and page structures consistently across client projects.
- Develop standard-complexity website projects with only light guidance.
- Set up Jotform and similar data-capture forms to fit client use cases.
Web Requests and Client Changes
- Complete live site edits, client revisions, and punch-list tasks accurately and within deadlines.
- Take ownership of each request from intake through delivery and raise blockers as soon as they arise.
- Spot recurring client needs and share those trends with leadership as possible process improvements.
Maintenance, Security, and Quality Control
- Oversee plugin updates across client sites and check for conflicts before anything goes live.
- Diagnose and help resolve security concerns, coordinating with Sucuri and WPEngine when required.
- Perform final self-review using team standards and checklists before closing work.
- Watch assigned websites for performance issues and escalate risks to department leadership.
Requirements
Applicants should bring 3 to 5 years of WordPress development experience, including theme customization, plugin administration, and full site builds from design to launch. Strong knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript is essential, along with the ability to write and troubleshoot custom code without depending heavily on plugins or frameworks.
The role also calls for sharp attention to detail, the ability to reproduce designs accurately across browsers and devices, and the discipline to manage multiple projects at once while consistently meeting deadlines. Candidates should be comfortable working independently on standard-complexity builds, communicate proactively about blockers, and suggest solutions rather than only raising issues.
Additional experience with website security practices, tools such as Sucuri and WPEngine, form builders like Jotform or similar platforms, SEO best practices within WordPress, and AI-assisted development tools is preferred.
Additional Information
This role may occasionally include duties outside the usual scope when necessary, as long as they are similar, related, or naturally connected to the position. The listed responsibilities are meant to illustrate the range of work that may be assigned and do not limit the role to only those tasks.
Compensation
The salary range for this position is $50,000 to $60,000 per year, depending on experience.
