About the Company

Whatnot is a major livestream shopping marketplace in North America and Europe where people can buy, sell, and discover products across many categories, including trading cards, fashion, electronics, and live plants. The company is scaling live commerce in a way that has not been done before in the West, helping sellers build real businesses while shaping a new industry.

The team works in a remote co-located model and is anchored across hubs in the US, UK, Ireland, Poland, Germany, and Australia. The culture emphasizes speed, proximity to users, and focusing effort on work that creates the greatest impact. The company is also recognized as one of the fastest growing marketplaces and was named the #1 Best Startup Employer in America by Forbes.

Role Overview

This position sits within the Commerce Strategy & Operations team, which influences decisions across the broader marketplace, including buyer experience, seller experience, trust and risk, fraud, logistics, and payments. This is the first hire of its kind in Australia.

The role is based remotely, but the person in this position must live within commuting distance of Sydney or Melbourne.

What You’ll Do

  • Shape and execute the strategy for post-purchase operations in partnership with Product, Engineering, and Operations to create a scalable and high-quality experience for Australian users.
  • Use operational data and user feedback to identify priorities, define roadmaps, and launch improvements that raise quality, speed, and scalability.
  • Work with the global Commerce team to implement changes that enhance the overall user journey, taking ownership of execution from start to finish.
  • Drive complex cross-functional projects from problem framing through delivery, ensuring alignment, ownership, and measurable results.
  • Build scalable processes, systems, and operating models that can support the company’s growth and changing user needs.
  • Act as a strategic advisor and Australia representative to senior leadership by presenting data-backed recommendations and evaluating trade-offs.
  • Monitor operational performance on an ongoing basis and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, resilience, and user experience.

Candidate Profile

People who thrive here are comfortable solving problems as they go, move quickly, and are naturally curious about what they are building. The company values people who prioritize outcomes over recognition and stay connected to both the product and its users.

The preferred background is 8 to 10 years of experience in strategy and operations roles such as consulting, finance, general management, or operations.
