Shipping and Logistics Operator

Role overview

Rio Tinto is hiring a Shipping & Logistics Operator for a permanent full-time position at Tiwai Point, Invercargill. The role follows an R2 roster of 12-hour shifts: 2 days, 2 nights, then 4 days off. It is a hands-on, physically active position focused on safe and efficient support for shipping and logistics activities across site.

About the work environment

You will join a team that places strong emphasis on safety, inclusion, and collaboration. The position sits within a dynamic shipping and logistics setting, reporting to the Crew Leader and working alongside internal and external stakeholders to keep operations running smoothly.

Key duties

• Coordinate with stakeholders involved in wharf operations, both within and outside the organisation.
• Support material handling work across Torbeds, Bath Plant, Metal Yard, and bulk material areas.
• Operate heavy mobile equipment such as loaders, excavators, trucks, ship unloaders, and bath plant machinery.
• Use other plant and equipment across the department as needed.
• Contribute ideas and actions that improve team and site performance.
• Work with other departments to help deliver operational results.

What you need

• A strong personal commitment to safety for yourself and those around you.
• A current Class 2 driver licence and forklift licence; Class 3, 4, or 5 licences would be an advantage.
• Experience operating heavy machinery in an industrial setting.
• Clear communication skills and confidence dealing with a range of stakeholders.
• A practical, self-directed approach with good problem-solving ability.
• Enough physical fitness to handle manual work.
