Role Summary
As a Sewing Repair Associate, you will restore and repair bags according to ticket instructions and inspection findings, while meeting TUMI’s quality expectations. The position involves hands-on sewing, use of tools and equipment, careful reconstruction of damaged items, and attention to construction details so finished products are returned in proper condition.
Key Duties
- Review repair tickets carefully and complete bag repairs based on the instructions provided.
- Carry out all required repairs identified by the inspector unless directed otherwise.
- After training, complete sewing repairs at a minimum pace of 5 bags per day.
- Use sewing machines and related equipment as part of the repair process.
- Work with power tools when needed.
- Examine bags closely, with special focus on how the original product was built.
- Rebuild damaged bags carefully to avoid causing additional damage.
- Study the original bag layout to choose the correct reassembly method.
- Measure, mark, and trim panels using scissors so they match the original pattern or damaged panel.
- Install folder attachments when needed for binding and seam tape application.
- Maintain correct seam allowances and stitch lengths.
- Fit zippers properly so length and placement do not distort the bag.
- Mark drill points accurately for handles, screws, speed clips, and wheels.
- Attach web or leather handles and straps.
- Replace damaged zipper sliders.
- Remove worn hytrel or poly corner guards and install new ones.
- Ensure every completed item meets TUMI’s quality standards.
- Lift, push, and pull items weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Sit for extended periods when required.
- Take on additional responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
- Previous sewing experience is preferred.
- Basic measuring ability is required.
