Role Overview
This position is for a Senior Mechanical Engineer supporting maintenance operations at Reliance Carbon Fiber in Surat, Gujarat. The role focuses on keeping plant assets reliable, efficient, and safe through structured planning, maintenance execution, and continuous improvement.
Education and Experience
A Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is required. The role calls for 7 to 13 years of experience overall, with preferred background of 8 to 12 years in leading mechanical maintenance teams within manmade fiber manufacturing or comparable continuous-process operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan daily and weekly needs for manpower, spares, and maintenance services, and track progress through reporting.
- Review the effectiveness and efficiency of mechanical maintenance on a day-to-day basis.
- Take the lead on shutdown planning as well as preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
- Take part in and encourage Gamba walks.
- Contribute to task forces, problem-solving efforts, and execution of work packages.
- Track MTBF and MTTR for critical equipment and define corrective improvement measures.
- Find and eliminate repeated mechanical maintenance issues.
- Share responsibility for OEE and OTIF along with the production and technology head.
- Maintain complete documentation of mechanical maintenance work in the maintenance management system, including updated equipment histories and manuals.
- Ensure equipment is properly handed back after maintenance, including cleaning, insulation, cladding, and related closure activities.
- Drive improvement packages that strengthen safety, efficiency, reliability, and consistency of mechanical plant equipment.
- Support simplification initiatives and other efforts that improve predictive maintenance.
- Ensure compliance with the management of change process.
- Implement world-class asset management practices with the team.
- Stay current with evolving maintenance methods, innovations, and modernization practices.
Preferred Background
- A strong academic record from a reputed university is preferred.
- Experience in acrylic fiber manufacturing is desirable.
- Hands-on exposure to high-temperature equipment and heavy rotary machinery is preferred.
- Experience managing large teams in a cross-cultural environment is valuable.
- Prior leadership of mechanical maintenance teams in continuous 24/7 shift operations is preferred.
