Across the world, team members help create memorable experiences for guests, residents, and partners through a luxury service culture that is grounded in genuine care. The brand values recognizing familiar faces, welcoming newcomers, and treating everyone with the same respect one would expect in return. Whether someone works with the company, stays there, lives there, or visits, the goal is to leave a lasting positive impression. This approach is rooted in the belief that life becomes richer when people truly connect with one another and with the world around them.
Location Overview
The role is based in Arusha, Tanzania, within a lodge setting in the Central Serengeti area. The property sits in the middle of one of the world’s most famous wildlife reserves, where the Big Five roam freely across open landscapes. The lodge is positioned on elevated platforms and walkways beside a watering hole, and it is about a 45-minute drive from Seronera Airstrip, with access through connecting flights from three major airports in Tanzania.
Opened in December 2012, the lodge has 77 rooms, including 12 suites and 5 villas. Facilities include 3 food and beverage venues, a Discovery Centre focused on the wildlife, history, and people of the Serengeti, a Kijana Kids Club, a spa with 6 standalone treatment pavilions, a fitness center, and a team dedicated to creating memorable safari experiences.
Role Purpose
The Security Officer plays an important part in meeting the Security Department’s objectives and quality expectations. The department’s mission is to protect guests and employees, safeguard property and assets, uphold security standards, and provide service to both guests and staff.
Key Responsibilities
The Security Officer is expected to carry out daily security patrols and support departmental operations while working closely with the Security Supervisor, Assistant Manager of Safety & Loss Prevention, and Director of Safety & Loss Prevention. The role also requires familiarity with security procedures, equipment, and databases, as well as involvement in special projects when assigned.
Day-to-day duties include patrolling public areas, guest corridors, back-of-house areas, the hotel perimeter, grounds, car park, and pool area to help prevent animal intrusion, unauthorized access, and other security concerns. The officer will escort guests between the lobby and their rooms, manage the staff entrance, and conduct baggage checks for staff and contractors leaving the property.
Additional duties involve checking storerooms and offices for security, transporting guest baggage between rooms and the lodge entrance, recording crimes, incidents, theft, loss, and damage, maintaining electronic security logs, and ensuring follow-up action is taken with the Director of Safety and Security to reduce repeat incidents.
The role also includes handling lost property and attempting to return it to its owner, participating in emergency response and evacuation procedures, serving as a floor fire officer when needed, and maintaining control over hotel master keys. The Security Officer may also be asked to open or repair in-room safes, receive after-hours deliveries, and ensure items reach the correct recipient safely.
Other responsibilities include providing emergency first aid to injured or unwell guests and staff, arranging further medical care when required, opening staff housing when needed, performing housing checks with HR, and keeping senior management informed immediately of any unusual event or incident. The officer may act as the contact point for emergency services responding to the hotel.
The position requires adherence to Category One and Category Two Work Rules and the Standards of Conduct outlined in the employee handbook. The role also calls for professional, cooperative working relationships with colleagues and supervisors, full familiarity with the Lead with Care health and safety program, attendance at mandatory training, and completion of any other tasks assigned by management.
Additional / Non-essential Duties
The Security Officer may support the Crunch Team in other departments across the hotel when required. The role may also involve travel to, or temporary relocation to, the Arusha logistics center to assist with operational needs.
Working Expectations
The position requires punctual attendance, correct use of the issued uniform, and a consistently neat and tidy appearance. The Security Officer must notify the Security Supervisor or Security Director in advance if unable to report to work, in line with the employee handbook. A strong working knowledge of department procedures and close coordination with the Security Supervisor are also expected.
