Role Overview

The Second Officer DPO will support Dynamic Positioning operations on board by helping keep the vessel positioned safely and efficiently in line with operational needs. This role involves continuous monitoring in the DP control room, accurate recording of system data, assistance with parameter setup, and support for routine upkeep and inspection of DP equipment and sensors.

Key Responsibilities

Run the DP system according to vessel operation requirements.
Maintain an uninterrupted on-duty presence in the DP control room.
Document all relevant DP system data accurately.
Support the setup and adjustment of DP operating parameters.
Help carry out maintenance work on DP equipment.
Perform regular checks on DP sensors, computers, and reference systems.
Follow and apply IMCA standards and requirements related to DP operations.
Report any DP system fault or abnormality to the SDPO promptly.

Qualifications

Applicants should hold a High School Diploma or an equivalent nautical science diploma/degree. A minimum qualification of Chief Mate FG COC II/2 with no limitations is required. Candidates must have full and unlimited DP certificates from the Nautical Institute and an IMCA DP logbook showing recorded DP experience. At least 1 year of experience as a DPO/Second Officer on DP heavy lift or pipelayer vessels in the same capacity is needed.

Strong understanding of DP system operations
Knowledge of safe working practices for DP environments
Ability to update nautical charts and publications
Experience in voyage and passage planning
Familiarity with bridge equipment and navigation systems
Good English communication skills
Ability to monitor and maintain technical systems
Attention to detail in record keeping and reporting

Additional Requirements

Candidates should be capable of correcting nautical charts and keeping publications up to date. They should also understand bridge equipment and DP-related procedures, and be prepared to support the vessel team in identifying and reporting DP malfunctions.
