Role Summary

This position is responsible for cleaning equipment and plant infrastructure carefully and thoroughly while following SugarCreek safety practices at all times. The role involves taking machines apart, dry cleaning and wet cleaning, inspecting components, reassembling equipment, and handling cleaning chemicals safely and correctly.

Key Duties

• Break down plant equipment and protect delicate components from damage during sanitation work.
• Operate high-pressure washers and other cleaning tools to sanitize production equipment.
• Carry out Standard Cleaning Procedures (SCP) and Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP) to clean equipment and facilities to microbiological standards.
• Work according to the Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS).
• Look for ways to reduce water, wastewater, chemical usage, and labor where possible without affecting sanitation quality.
• Carry out corrective actions for periodic equipment maintenance (PEM), spoilage, and process-cleaning concerns as instructed by the Plant Sanitation Supervisor.
• Participate in training to integrate basic preventative maintenance (PM) tasks into sanitation work.
• Support the plant pest control program.
• Help with customer plant audits when required.
• Protect sanitation chemicals by restricting access and watching for leaks, spills, or other hazards.
• Follow all federal, state, and company rules, procedures, and regulations.
• Support safety, food quality, and sanitation programs and comply with SugarCreek safety requirements.
• Complete other related tasks as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

A high school diploma or GED is preferred, though equivalent experience may also be considered. No prior experience is required, but background in sanitation or food manufacturing is preferred. No certification or license is needed.

Abilities and Skills

The role requires the ability to read and understand printed and digital information, use cleaning equipment safely and efficiently, pay close attention to detail, work effectively in a team, follow instructions, and consistently follow safety procedures.

Physical Requirements

This job does not involve unusual physical demands, but it does require the typical conditions of industrial sanitation work. Tasks may include standing for long periods, lifting 2 to 40 lbs. throughout the shift, and using sufficient trunk, arm, and hand strength. Good manual dexterity is needed for handling and moving objects, and occasional climbing may be required to remove or dislodge raw material.

Work Environment

Some travel to other locations is expected. Most work takes place indoors in a manufacturing facility close to heavy and hazardous machinery. Certain departments are kept at cold temperatures between 30° and 40° F, while others operate in hotter conditions between 90° and 100° F. Required safety gear includes a hard hat, hairnet, hearing protection, safety glasses, steel-toe boots, coats, and any other necessary protective equipment. Very little work is done outside the manufacturing facility.
