Salvage Diver / Rigger

Role overview

As a Salvage Diver / Rigger, you will support emergency response and wreck-removal operations across the world. The job combines work underwater and on deck, so it requires strong teamwork, practical problem-solving, and the ability to handle varied duties such as welding, cargo handling, and other marine support tasks.

You will perform complex diving and salvage work on your own, drawing on substantial salvage-diving experience. In addition, you will help lead activities on deck during diving operations and work with a small team to complete assigned tasks. A solid theoretical understanding is needed so you can resolve basic issues independently.

This position is with SMIT Salvage, part of Boskalis Westminster N.V., and involves close coordination with agents around the world. The company has a long-standing track record and serves major insurers among its client base.

Responsibilities

• Carry out diving and rigging assignments within your capability as directed by the Salvage Master as part of a mobile salvage crew.
• Support wider salvage work, including welding, cargo handling, and deck assistance.
• Look after dive equipment and keep it in working condition.
• Help deliver salvage projects by carrying out specific project tasks or by inspecting underwater salvage activity.
• Guide and train 2nd Divers and Apprentice Divers, and escalate safety concerns or observations to the Dive Foreman.
• Share practical suggestions with the Superintendent and Dive Foreman to strengthen operational and safety performance.
• Work in line with SHE-Q standards and contribute to ongoing improvement.
• Support sustainability and environmental management efforts.

Candidate profile

To succeed in this role, you should bring proven salvage-diving experience, be comfortable working as part of a hands-on team, and be able to manage tasks independently when required. The role also calls for frequent weekend and public-holiday work, with overtime and allowances compensated.

Requirements

• A valid medical dive certificate.
• IMCA HSE Part 1 dive qualification, or an equivalent certification.
• About 5 years of experience in salvage work as an Apprentice Diver or 2nd Diver.
• Strong written and spoken English.
• Preferably good eyesight.
• Willingness to work regularly on weekends and public holidays, with overtime and allowances paid.

Additional information

You will be part of the SMIT Salvage Singapore team and collaborate with other Salvage Divers / Riggers and colleagues across the wider salvage organisation. The role is based in Singapore, with project work also taking place at locations around the world.

This is a full-time position. The hiring process is conducted online or in person, and successful candidates will receive an offer after the company confirms a mutual fit.
