Role overview
This is a fixed-term contract lasting 18 months. The Safety Manager will take ownership of health, safety, environment, and quality systems across construction projects. The role partners closely with project and site teams to build a safety-first culture, maintain compliance with regulations, and drive quality assurance practices that safeguard people, assets, and the company’s reputation.
Key responsibilities
- Create, roll out, and keep updated project HSE plans, safe work method statements, and risk registers.
- Carry out site HSE audits, inspections, and toolbox meetings on a regular basis while ensuring alignment with the WHS Act and project-specific obligations.
- Oversee incident reporting, investigations, and corrective actions for all assigned projects.
- Work with regulators, project principals, and subcontractors on HSE performance, compliance, and duty requirements.
- Prepare and manage quality plans, inspection and test plans, and quality control registers for projects.
- Run quality audits and defect management workflows, making sure non-conformances are logged and closed out quickly.
- Keep quality records current and confirm project handover documentation satisfies contractual and regulatory expectations.
- Assist the Engineering Lead and Site Manager with hold point control and construction inspection activities.
Requirements
- At least 8 years of experience leading HSE on large projects in the building or civil construction sector.
- Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety or a Diploma in WHS; a degree in OHS or a similar field is preferred.
- Lead auditor certification for ISO 45001 and proven experience managing quality assurance processes.
- Strong working knowledge of WHS laws, environmental responsibilities, safety management systems, and construction codes of practice.
- A respected safety professional who can influence people at all levels of a project team.
- Highly organised approach to documentation, incident management, and following through on corrective actions.
- Ability to identify risks early and encourage real ownership of safety across the site.
- Confident communicator who can engage effectively with audiences across all levels of the organisation.
